More Sequentials
I was offered an opportunity to be a part of an anthology project recently and was paired with a very talented writer named Evan Kuhlman. Evan's story had a really dark twist to it, so I decided to play off that and use some harsh lighting and heavy shadows... which is somewhat out of my comfort zone, but I was really happy with the results.
I told you I was busy!

Been a while since I posted, but it hasn't been for lack of drawing... I've actually been working my butt off on a new pitch that I hope to get out the door within the next few weeks - provided Rus can turn the letters around fast enough ( just put aside those big marvel projects turbo!)... here's a pair of final pages sans Rus' beautiful typography:

Fantasy Sports meets Twitter
I've been working with my buddy Kevin non-stop over the past year or two, providing graphics, and interfaces for a variety of projects. The latest thing we're working has got us pretty excited:
It's Fantasy Baseball meets Twitter... literally. You log your predictions on twitter, get points based on those predictions, and win prizes. Totally free, and easy to play.
Right now we are running baseball, but are working feverishly to get the game ready for football season, as well as Mixed Martial Arts. Drop us a line and let us know what you think... better yet... sign up and play!! Thanks guys!!

Here's the cover to the pitch. I should be done with the last page this weekend, and then I can send everything off to Rus to letter... and then it will be on it's way to be a complete pitch.

How cool is this?
A very talented artist named James was inspired by a piece of my art and decided to paint a mural! To hear that really made my day. Then I saw the smiles on the kids faces... and it made my year!

Thanks James!

I discovered this contest over at CBR about a week before it began and got really excited about joining. While being a lot of fun, I think it's really forcing me to come up with interesting ideas regarding costume designs. Here are my first two designs for rounds 1 and 2. Enjoy!

Captain America Sketch
This was a doodle that turned into Captain America just prior to a meeting the other day. I loved it so much I tore it from my notes, and have been trying (unsuccessfully) to turn it into a finished drawing. Hopefully my luck will change and I'll win the battle at the drawing board.

Here's an updated look at the drawing so far:

Playoff Beard .com
One of the biggest reasons I don't post here that often (aside from a full time job, freelance, and a family) is that I run a hockey site in my spare time (yeah what is spare time, seriously). Playoff Beard .com is my tribute to the one thing I love as much as comic books. Hockey. Over the past two years I have written about the NHL, on an almost daily basis, and in that time amassed an extensive library of nhl player caricatures. Here is a small sampling of those drawings. If you enjoy hockey as much as I do, check out www.playoffbeard.com, you may enjoy it!

New Look
I felt it was time for a change, and that is why you see a brand new site before you. Granted it's very simple, but that's the point. PatDavid.com will now be a showcase for my work, and hopefully force me (once again to be more diligent about posting my new work.... I know you've heard it before) to keep me updating.
Below is a brand new piece I'm working on for a buddy of mine who has a woodworking shop. He requested a superhero type character and pretty much left the rest up to me. Here's the sketch, and the finished lineart. I hope to have the colored version done soon.

Gorilla
It's nice when you have a some spare time (what is that?) you can actually spend more time drawing. I've got a new idea in my head for a proposal that is heavily involved with animals, so I wanted to test my skills on drawing animals. Here's the first test drawing of a gorilla. Can't really say much more about it than that. It started out as a quick pencil sketch, but I thought it was strong enough to take the pen to it.... so I did!

Death Dealer
Wow! Two posts in one day! I guess that means I'm moving in the right direction (or you won't hear from me again in a month)!
Image Comics has brought Frank Frazetta's Death Dealer back into print, which is just sweet. To celebrate the launch of the character, the team that is putting together this book is holding a pinup contest, and I just couldn't resist entering. The Death Dealer has got to be one of the most challenging figures to illustrate next to Spiderman. Hopefully I've done some justice to Mr. Frazetta's creation.

More Sequentials!
Seems like everytime I write I'm saying I want to post more, but I guess it's because I'm spending alot of time at the drawing board (and doing freelance), so I can't really say it's a bad thing. I just posted a new set of sequentials which is part of pitch for another comic book proposal. I pretty happy with the art, and I think the story is alot of fun as well. I'm sure once my buddy Rus get's the lettering done (he's slacking, workin on Invincible, and Walking Dead), the pages will look really sweet. In any case, here's a taste of what could be.....

Sequentials Update
Well I know it's been a while since my last update, but here's why. I've been working on my sequentials alot lately. My focus has been to really improve my storytelling, and streamline my line work. Hopefully I'm working towards achieving both.

Cover : The Rookie
Well, it's been some time since I've updated the site, so here's a look at what I've been working on. This is the cover to a new proposal I've been working on. The amazing color has been provided by Bob Pedroza, who is an incredibly talented artist. You can find his work gracing the pages of many current Image titles, including Lions, Tigers and Bears. Bob has been a joy to work with, and has brought life to my artwork I've never imagined possible. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Welcome!
To get things going I have just posted a new image, actually an old image from one of the sequential pages. This panel was a patch (which there were many) that I really wanted to show off in greater detail. It focuses on Ajax, a super villian in a comic series I'm working on with my buddy and famous letterer Rus Wooton. If you read comics, he probably did the lettering in the books you are reading. Ajax, is probably my favorite character right now. I love drawing this guy, and hopefully that translates on the page.
Thank you very much for dropping by, and I hope to hear from you soon!
